my dearest girls celebrate my birthday and ting's birthday today!

we were supposed to meet 1pm @cityhall,
but shushu n jiajia reached first n qin&tofu were late so me n ting went yukiyaki to find them
and then we ate @yukiyaki till 4pm+
then went aracade and doll machines
then went walkwalk

tofu said she wanted a drink @jack's place so we all went with her.
me & huiting didnt sense anything wrong
althou we felt weird why drink water must go jack's place???
tofu said there's a house mix she wanted so we didnt felt anything
then we were sitting there chatting and suddenly the soundtrack of the resturant changed.
it was the happy birthday song.
i was still thinking "why this restuarant so weird play the soundtrack so kuku de?"
then i thought "oh maybe got pple birthday" so i looked around to see who & where.
then i saw the waitress carrying a cake towards our table then i realised.
then i was like goodness so paiseh cux the soundtrack reali very KUKU.
and other tables some pple singing along(-____-)||

huiting oso thought who's birthday and was looking arnd until she oso realised.

the both of us totally forgot bout the cake la!
cux at first i thought they would present the cake @yukiyaki but didnt
so after that playplayplay i oso forget about it le.
so well..
well done girls! u guys realised surprised me n ting.

so we made wishes blew candles cut cake
and they presented us with our present.
my present was a top that is very pervertic they purposely wan me "zou geng"!!!
lol joking.. it was a nice grey top i reali liked it
jux that i wear must be really careful lol.

after that we chat in the restuarant for a while,
then went shopping @muji.
bought some stuff and soon it was time to part.
shu n jia went off cux tofu sending me n ting home (since we r the princesses of the day lol)
and before that tofu will send me to parkway to buy the facecream for my mama first
so we walked to the carpark..
and actuali i alrdy know what car she drive la.
cux before that she asked me my fav car,
i said "VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE!"
and qin told me she drive lorry (ya right like i'll believe)
and then tofu flashed me the beetle car key and i screamed like mad.
but tofu said she didnt drive that car today so i thought, ok.
but when i walked to the carpark i alrdy sensed that it might be mr. beetle.
and AHHHHHHH IT WAS A RED BEETLE!!!
and what's more,
it's a VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE CABRIOLET (convertible)

US scientists perfect targeted memory erasure in mice

US researchers said Wednesday they are able to selectively erase memories from mice in a laboratory, raising hopes human memory afflictions like post-traumatic stress syndrome can one day be cured.

"Targeted memory erasure is no longer limited to the realm of science fiction," the research team headed by Joe Tsien, from the Brain and Behavior Discovery Institute at the Medical College of Georgia, said in Thursday's issue of Cell Press magazine.

The new technique, which the team stress is at a very early stage, could be applied one day to the human brain to erase traumatic memories or deep-set fears, and leave all other memories unaffected.

Memory is generally separated into four different stages: acquisition, consolidation, storage, and retrieval. Earlier research identified specific molecules that appear to play a role in the various phases of the memory process.

But Tsien said his team found a way to quickly manipulate the activity of the "memory molecule," the protein CaMKII (calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II) that plays a key role in brain cell communication, and so is linked to many aspects of learning and memory.

Researchers developed a "chemical genetic strategy," which made it possible to manipulate the protein in transgenic mice, which had been bred to overproduce the molecule.

"Using this technique, we examined the manipulation of transgenic CaMKII activity on the retrieval of short-term and long-term fear memories and novel object recognition memory" in transgenic mice, Tsien said.

The team figured out they could manipulate the protein in the mice's brain as the animal was stimulated, and observe the brain's ability to recall memory of the stimulation.

Through the protein manipulation, researchers then found a way to not just block the mice's memory of the stimulation, but erase them without impacting the brain's ability to recall other memories.

Tsien became famous in 1999 for his creation of Doggie, the smart transgenic mouse with enhanced learning and memory abilities.

In the recent findings, Tsien's team found that transient excessive activity of CaMKII at the time of recall impaired retrieval of short- and long-term fear memories, as well as memories formed as recently as one hour.

They also showed that recall deficits linked to excessive CaMKII activity were not caused by a blockade of the recall process but instead seemed to be due to rapid erasure of the stored memories.

In addition, they found that the erased memories were limited to those being retrieved, while others remained intact.

"The results demonstrate a successful genetic method for rapidly and specifically erasing specific memories, such as new and old fear memories, in a controlled and inducible manner without doing harm to the brain cells," the researchers said.

Tsien said the technique might one day be applied to war veterans who "often suffer from reoccurring traumatic memory replays after returning home."

However, he warned that it was premature to expect a such a miracle cure.

"No one should expect to have a pill do the same in humans any time soon, we are barely at the foot of a very tall mountain," he said.

i was talking with dave the other day about the end of the world.
and suddenly it hits me that i have alort of things not done.

i never had the interest in reading blogs of people whom i do not know
so this is considered a first time.
in the past qinqin would have told me about this blogger n etc
and i wasnt really interested.

zarifah, xavier, AL and me went to engineering to check out my venue for IT class on thurs
then we realised it's reeeali far
so we ended up in mac instead.
then we ate and chat there and it started pouring reali heavily
when we finished eating we went home as the rain had stopped
but the very moment we stepped out of the engin block,
a gust of wind blew and raindrops splattered on us
zarifah, AL and me were like "waaaaaa!!!!!!!!"
and we all ran back into the block again for shelter.
we thought it started raining again and were like "WALAO SO SUAY!"
but it was actuali the wind blowing the raindrops off the trees=.=
so de ne ne but we had a good laugh.
HAHAHAS!

today is officially the first day of lessons.
this week we're only having lectures thou,
tutorials will start next week after.

our very first lecture of uni life is - intro to film art.
i have to say,
it's a really very good lecture to start the new school life with.
it's extremely interesting (at least to me)
and i reali loved it.
althou the film we watch after tat (some 1924 US silent film called "Greed")
was quite a snoreeee movie,
relatively, the lecture was a good one.

like me n jiamin said,
"we'll never look at movies the same way again."

LOLS.
seriously.
we never realised that there's so much in a movie.
we're normally only more concerned about the storyline, plot, characters & artists
but for the very first time (at least for me too)
we're looking at the way the camera angles are held, how it's shot, the different takes
and manymany smallsmall details that we've never thought tat they're impt.
through all this,
we are looking thru the director's eyes.
thinking like the director.

and it's really amazing how the lecturer could link the truck as a metaphor to a cyclops.

in all. i really love today's lecture.
maybe it's too early to say but it's a good start and im glad it has been.
after all the stress and worries,

hi im here to blog!
went to sentosa with baby on wednesday and we had a great time!
we met at 10.30@bedok and ate at BK @vivocity
then we went to palawan to fly kite
it was a very gd kite but sadly no wind =.=
it was damn sunny la!
in the end we tried quite alort of times the kite oso dun fly

we went to kayak, and it was great cux we can kayak very fast since dar is stronger.

then we kayak to the little island n dar taught me how to swim

then we went to return the kayak n played with the waters
and then we went to wash up and went earl's swesens @vivo for dinner
it's reali veryvery delicious.

the fisherman's catch is even nicer than the seafood platter from fish&co

now i share update about my very exciting-fun-great-knock-you-over 3 days orientation camp!
(which was 11th - 13th July 2008)

~first day~
i had my stupid checkup done at NHWUC before going to the camp
met zarifah at 8am to take 197 cux i THOUGHT THE CHECKUP'S AT NUH
so in the end we reached NUH at 9.30am to find out WRONG!
it's at yusoff ishak house=.=
so took a taxi cux we duno the way in NUS to yusoff ishak (dots)
and had my checkup until 12.30pm!
ARGH I WAITED AN HOUR AND HALF TO SEE THE DOC
and i CAME OUT IN less than 5minutes!

so we went to the central forum
and our OGL kaimin kindly came over to fetch us cux we duno the way to the fass cafetaria
so we proceed to the cafetaria n guess who i saw.

and then we went for station games and stuff
and had steamboat for dinner!
sadly, our group was one of the last and we only had $50 for steamboat ingredients
(which we have to go clementi NTUC to buy ourselves)
the winning OG had $100.
after the dinner we had heart-to-heart-talk (HTHT according to shiduan) till 2am
then the girls came to my room and we chat slack played some pictionary n slept at 3am.
we slept in temasek hall,
having one room & one bed for each of us woots!
but me n fahfah scared so she came over to sleep in my room.

~second day~
i thought the first day was tiring enough until we had the photo hunt on the second day.
we literally went from:
NUS - harbourfront - outram - chinatown - clarke - dobhy ghaut - SMU - bugis
almost walking all the time from 12pm till 10pm.
(u can hear our legs cracking)
and we combed the whole of each area.
it was torturous (-_____-)
and we went back to the hall again and showered and stuff,
and assembled again at 11.30pm for some games until 2am.
the best game was "werewolves"
and i swear everyone is going to explode from fatigue already
and yet still have to listen to "analysis-es"

so we went sentosa tanjong beach
with our legs already breaking from ytd today isnt any better.
the orientation pple went for BBQ @west coast but me, fahfah, jiajia n susanna were reali too tired
furthermore it's easier to go home from harbourfront
so we skipped the BBQ and had dinner at vivo ourselves.
can u believe it we walked DAMN far just for some shower room.
i shouldnt go into details about how we found the showers and how we showered.
